What happens?
The process of getting dentures starts with an initial consultation with a dentist or prosthodontist. During this consultation, impressions and measurements of the patient’s mouth are taken to ensure a precise fit. If teeth need to be extracted before dentures can be fitted, this is done first. Once the mouth is ready, the dentist designs and creates the dentures to match the shape, size, and color of the natural teeth.
After fabrication, the dentures are placed in the mouth and adjusted to ensure comfort and proper fit. Patients are instructed on how to care for their dentures, including cleaning techniques and regular maintenance. Over time, periodic adjustments or relining of dentures may be necessary to maintain optimal fit and function.

Quick tip
- If your dentist gives you advice about daily dental care like teeth brushing techniques and how often you should floss, write it down. It takes time to build a new habit – some say 21 days or more. In the meantime, here’s a handy idea. Stick your note about your new dental care routine on your bathroom mirror as a daily reminder.
